What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a science that maps out the reflexes on the feet and
hands to all the organs and the rest of the body. By applying
acupressure and massage like techniques to the feet and hands the body
can be brought back into its homeostasis or balance.
Where does it come from?
Reflexology is
not new, it has its origins in ancient Egypt, China and India. There
are drawings on the walls of a pyramid in Egypt showing people having
their hands and feet 'worked'. In the ancient texts of China and
India, reference is made to working areas of the feet.
What happens during a reflexology session?
Your first visit with me will take about 1¼
hour. We are going to talk about your medical history and your general
health, about your diet, exercise routine, etc. We will discuss what
your
expectations from the treatment are and which areas in your body need
help or improvement. After that you get to lie
down and relax and I will work both of your feet in alteration from
one side to
the other as I work through all the organs, systems, bones and joints
of your body. Each session takes about 1 hour. During the session you
may feel different sensations in your feet and your body, it may feel
like a sharp pain or your feet may feel very sensitive. Sensitivity
varies from person to person and from treatment to treatment. But
generally the session will be calming and comforting, it will not
tickle since it is a firm pressure to the feet.
In order to see the desired results I usually recommend a series of
consecutive treatments in either a weekly or by-weekly rhythm. A
minimum of 10 treatments is usually to your best benefit and allows
the body to do it’s healing and balancing of energy flow. Sensitivity
levels will change over the progress of treatments and you as a client
will also notice the improvement.
